June 13

Dear families,

Thank you so much for the amazing gift I got today !

I simply love it!

I am sad to see this year go by so quickly. I want to thank you for a truly special school year! Your children are amazing and I have enjoyed working with them this year.

I wish all of our families a safe and happy summer. I will be spending most of mine here in Shanghai. To those that are moving on to other adventures, I wish you all the best.

Warmly,

Ms. Peláez

Field Day – team colors

Dear Parents,

Our annual Field Day will be held on Friday June 8 (rain date is on Monday June 11).

This is a day where your child will join a team of other students from different classes and travel around the school to participate in 10 fun (and sometimes wet) stations!  Teams have different colors, so please read carefully below to see the color your child should be wearing on June 8.

To avoid overcrowding and to maximize space for students, only parents who have signed up as volunteers to help run stations should be on campus during this time. Thank you for your understanding!

Please remember the following for Friday June 8:

– Apply sunscreen and mosquito repellent on your child at home if needed

– Send in an extra change of clothes (socks, underwear, top and bottom – does not have to be school uniform)

Swim Unit from Monday May 14 to Thursday May 17

 Dear Parents,

We are getting ready for our Swim Unit.

We will take a bus to visit the pool at No. 633 Wu Zhong Rd. Ming Hang District Ming Sheng Garden every morning at 8:45 from May 14 to May 17.

Our time in the pool is from 9:20 to 10:00.  We will head back to the ECE at 10:30.

The items your child needs to bring on swim days are:

  1. a bathing suit,
  2. a swim cap,
  3. a towel,
  4. goggles, flip flops and
  5. a bag for wet things.

All of these items are available for purchase at the athletic store, Decathalon. Students should not wear any jewelry during their swim week and should wear clothing they can get on and off independently.

The professionals that will be on hand to supervise and teach your child in the pool include: Mr. Sternberg, Mr. Newman, and the aquatics instuctors from the SCIS Hongqiao Campus. During the first swim class students will be evaluated and then grouped together based on basic swim skills and their comfort in the water. Floatation belts are available for those who need them, but will not be required unless the staff deems it necessary for safety.

Our swimming unit is an exciting time for most students, but some students are less comfortable in the water. These children are encouraged to take advantage of their time in the pool, but of course will not be forced. What is most important at this age is that your child has safe and positive experiences regarding the water and swimming.

Parents who would like to watch their child swim are encouraged to come only on the final day of our swimming week, on Friday May 18.  This will allow your child to be focused and get the most out of class during the week and be able to show you what they can do at the end of that time.

Two volunteers from our class will be invited to help the children in the locker room, making sure the children get dressed in a safe and  timely fashion.

Please sign up following the link below  if you would like to volunteer:

We are all looking forward to working with your child during this unit. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Brian Stenberg at bsternberg@scis-china.org, or Mr. Brendan Newman at bewman@scis-china.org directly.

Sincerely,

Ms.Pelaez
