Theme: Achieving the level that your desire and ability will allow

Team skills: Focus, tough, committed and proud

Primarily for: 13 years old & over / 8th grade

This group makes a shift in focus from skill development to competition training. Aerobic endurance is stressed, while weight and dry-land training is increased. Swimmers are encouraged to attend all scheduled practices per week as well as all team swim meets.

Swimmer Controllable

You are expected to demonstrate the following characteristics during the Varsity team program.

Tactical Preparation

Displays strong understanding of race analysis and refinement of optimal race strategy in training and competitive environments.

Planning and Communication 

Provide your coach access to your wellness diary regularly. Develop and adopt an plan, highlighting clear expectations through your coach.  Your coach can help you build your plan.  Make an appointment with your coach during school / training hours to discuss a plan.

As a Varsity swimmer you are encouraged and expected to take personal accountability for your own progress.

9th (Freshmen) – Working towards becoming independent in communicaiton with coach

10th (Sophmore) & beyond – Be Prepared – Be A Self Advocate – Be A Team Player

Personal Excellence

Implement time management skills that reflect the importance of life balance for wellbeing and performance.  Respecting your own time, the programs time and the coaching teams time.

Develop skills to identify, plan, undertake, and evaluate personal and professional development activities facilitating progression in and out of the pool, in and out of the school team that will enhance your development as an athlete.

There are many other routes you can choose if you decide you have other priorities, or if you aren’t successful in being selected to progress to the Varsity team. You can continue within the Junior Varsity Program (depending on your progress) or apply the skills you have learned training environment.

To help you decide what your aspirations are and whether your commitment levels match the program expectations, you can ask yourself the following questions:

Have you discussed your aspirations and commitments with the Coach?

Do they match the program expectations?

Do they match what your program can provide?

USA Motivational Times

Junior Varsity (D2) prerequisties listed below:

  • 8 x 50 freestyle @ 1:00
  • 6 x 50 freestyle kick @1:10 OR 18 x 25 freestyle kick @40
  • 6 x 100 freestyle @ 2:10
  • Have achieved at least one event within a B min time

Entry level Varsity (D2) prerequisites listed below:

  • 10 X 50 freestyle @ 1:00
  • 6 X 100 freestyle @ 1:50
  • 4 X 200 IM without disqualification
  • Can finish practices set by coach
  • Have achieved at least two events within a BBmin time (USAmotivational Times) OR one BBmin time & Bmin time
  • Begin to keep a health journal; tracking hydration, exercise, energy intake and general body condition and how these factors help performance.
  • Aiming to keep injury rate and time spent out of training is consistently low, taking accountability of contacting Athletic Trainer and keeping on top of personalised injury prevention.

Swimmers: TBA

Intermediate level Varsity (D1) prerequisites:

  • 10 x 50 freestyle @ 50
  • 8 x 100 freestyle @ 1:40
  • 4 x 200 IM @ 3:45
  • All of entry level prerequisties (please read)
  • Can finish practices set by coach, if athlete can finish practices they should consider finding additional training out with the SCIS program, that does not conflict with our training program.
  • Have achieved at three events within a Amin time OR two Amin & one BBmin (USAmotivational Times).
  • Tracking exercise, hydration and energy intake, deemed highly proficient in self-maintenance of physical attributes such as optimal stability and range of motion/flexibility of major joint complexes as well as appropriate strength and power characteristics.
  • Aiming to keep injury rate and time spent out of training is consistently low, taking accountability of contacting Athletic Trainer and keeping on top of personalised injury prevention.

Swimmers: TBA

High performance (D1) prerequisites:

  • 10 x 50 freestyle @ 45
  • 8 x 100 freestyle @ 1:20
  • 4 x 200 IM @ 3:35
  • Can finish practices set by coach
  • Have achieved at least 3 events within a AA/AAA/AAAAmin
  • Aiming to swim minimum of five Swim Practices per week, any outside training should not conflict with our training program.
  • Tracking exercise, hydration and energy intake, deemed highly proficient in self-maintenance of physical attributes such as optimal stability and range of motion/flexibility of major joint complexes as well as appropriate strength and power characteristics.
  • Aiming to keep injury rate and time spent out of training is consistently low, taking accountability of contacting Athletic Trainer and keeping on top of personalised injury prevention.

Swimmers: TBA

In addition, should be able to:

  • Ability to swim 800m sub 11:30

Whilst aiming for:

  • Striving to achieve their national Age Group Championship times

Training:

Monday : poolside for 4pm – finish 5:45pm

Tuesday : No weight room training due to u8 carnival – poolside for 4:30pm.

Thursday : poolside for 3:30 – finish 5:45pm.

Friday : 3:30pm – 4:45pm
